Hi - I just realized that my husband and I will be in Paris on May 1 (Labor Day). This is just a long weekend for us after a tour. We've been to Paris before and were planning on doing a couple new things and more in-depth on places we've been. We've already made non-refundable reservations so we can't make changes to the times we'll be there. Any suggestions about what is open on May 1 or what to do to keep ourselves busy? And yes, we'll be praying for no rain so being outside is an option!
Being in Paris on Labor Day seems like everyone in Europe has come to Paris to be there for that holiday! I wouldn't plan to go to the Louvre or the Orsay because of the unbelievable crowds. For Impressionist art, the Marmotton would be a good choice (if it's open). Another wonderful museum is the Cluny. If good weather, the Tuileries or Luxembourg Gardens would be nice. Some restaurants will be closed as, they too, take a holiday, but no problem finding many places open.
Mary, We were in Paris last 1 May, and planned to go to the Louvre that day. OOPS, it was closed! Just whatever you decide to do, make sure it's open!
I'd go to a parade!
Alternatively, pick up a bottle of wine, a baguette, some cheese, etc., and have a picnic on the banks of the Seine.
Of course in Paris, just walking around is enough entertainment for me. Have you been to le Marais? The Passy neighborhood?
Or hang out in the Tullieries! It's likely to be a sunny day, and watching the kids (and dads) with their little boats is wonderful fun!
