With time being a slight factor, traveling from Salzburg to Bled, Slovenia, which would be preferable, Königssee or Hallstatt, or should we do both?
Thanks,
Jack

Jack, you really have to WANT to get to Hallstadt because it's not awfully convenient from anywhere. It's even less convenient if you're going south from Salzburg. Go to Königssee as it's much more convenient for you. Or make Hallstadt a destination where you're planning on spending some time.
If time is a big factor, the Wolfgangsee just east of Salzburg has great scenery. Also, the Worthersee near Villach is quite nice and, of course, your destination at Lake Bled.
Hi Jack -
My wife and I had the opportunity to do both on a RS Germany Austria & Switzerland tour this year (Hallstatt with the group, Konigssee on our own).
To be honest, both were fantastic. Konigssee was a bit more touristy, but that may have been due to the fact we were in Hallstatt on a Sunday.
I'm a bit partial to Konigssee due to my family being from the Berchtesgaden area (I have a cousin getting married at St. Barolomew, on Konigssee), and would recommend also seeing Berchtesgaden.
Hallstatt was a highlight of our trip - it was completely relaxing. The scenery was to die for, and the food was fantastic.
sigh and now we're back to work!
:)

Thanks, Jarron, Luke, and Kris. You all provide food for thought. We've reserved Salzgurg, then have two days before our next spot, Bled, Slovenia. Thought we'd spend both days in Hallstatt until a friend recommended Königssee. Maybe I'll try to postpone our Bled stay a day or two...?
Jack
Konigssee would have you traveling in the opposite direction of Hallstatt. How long are you in Salzburg?
While in Salzburg, we had a family do a day trip to Berchtesgaden to see Hitler's Eagles Nest. They took the bus, which was roughly 30 minutes (we later took it to our family). The bus station where they got off in B'gaden can also take you to Konigssee -- which is all of a 15-20 ride (we've done it - 'tis a breeze).
If I was limited, I'd probably go Salzburg (w/ day trip to B'gaden + Eagles Nest) then onto Hallstatt.

Kris-
We've reservations for three days in Salzburg, then we pick up a rental car and have two days before we've reservations in Bled, Slovenia. I was figuring on two nights in Hallstatt until a German friend highly recommended Königssee. This gave me pause for thought ... A day trip sounds good. Would we have time to cruise halfway down the lake?
Thanks for your help.
Jack
