Konigssee

I'll be in Munich in June. Is a visit to the Konigssee a feasible side trip? What is the best way to get there?

If you use a Bayern-Ticket (€21,00, Single, €29 up to five people) it's about a 4 hr trip from Munich to Berchtesgaden by train with a change in Freilassing, and a bus from Berchtesgaden Hbf to the parking lot at Schönau am Königssee. With a Bayern-Ticket, the RT bus is also covered. The Bayern-Ticket is good for unlimited on/off use of regional trains all day on weekends, after 9 AM on workdays. So on weekends, you could leave on the 6:39 train and be in Berchtesgaden before 10. However, on workdays, the first train after 9 AM doesn't leave Munich until 9:42 (arr. B'gaden at 12:37). If you want to get to B'gaden earlier, in addition to the B-T, buy a 3 zone MVV ticket for €7,50 and leave on the 8:48 train. Your MVV ticket covers you to Grafing Bahnhof, which you reach after 9 AM. After that the Bayern-Ticket is good until 3 AM the following day.
