Hello All -
My hubby and I are driving from Strasbourg, France to Freiburg, Germany and down to Lucerne,Switzerland this coming fall. Would anyone know where we could stop along the way to get a slice of genuine Black Forest Cake? We won't be in Germany too long but this is a must-do on our agenda! Thanks in advance!
Sarah, if you ask for "Schwarzwaelder Kirschtorte" at a Konditorei (this is a bakery specializing in cakes and pastries) or restaurant you'll probably find some. I bet you'll find some in Freiburg or maybe even in Strasbourg or Colmar. If not, it's not that hard to make: canned sour cherries for cherry pie, real whipped cream and a chocolate cake base.
It's probably the most popular or well-known cake in Germany. You should have no trouble finding it in any cafe or konditorei.
