milo: you should really learn to use www.tripadvisor.com to look up your hotels and see what other people have to say about them. ricksteves.com doesn't have a useful feature that lets real users rate their stays at hotels...therefore I'm glad that we CAN read such reviews on www.tripadvisor.com

We stayed there in May of 06. We liked it very much. The room was clean, modern and comfortable with a very nice canopy bed. It's just a few blocks from the train station which was very convenient. The only thing I didn't like was that the lobby was very smoky, but that was the only place where people were smoking.

We recently stayed at the Hotel Blauer Bock, which is just off Marianplatz. It was a splendid hotel, very convenient, great rooms, great price, just next to the market and a five minute walk from Marianplatz.

I belive Kings is closer to the train station, but I prefer the Marianplatz location a bit more, although everything is handy walking or by metro.

Yes, Marienplatz is MUCH better than train station. And since the subway from Marienplatz goes directly to the main train station, there is really no need for anyone to choose the main station...unless you just like the seedy little area.
