KD Ship Schedule

Hello,
The KD Ship schedule website confuses me.

I want to go from Bacharach to Bernkastel-Kues via rail/bus and then jump on a KD ship back up to Koblenz around the corner and then back to Bacharach. Is that possible in late Sept/early Oct? How does one read their schedules?

Nova, I took a look at their English site. I have to admit it confused me, too. Now I'm taking a look at the German site. It looks like their main season is over on October 4 and then low season begins. Be sure when you read the schedule to remember that they mean 4th of May when they say 4.5. (day before month). Do you have a fixed date in mind? I think it would make it easier to figure out the schedule. There are some changes because of fireworks and schedule changes are possible at any rate. The Moselle schedule looks like you can't board in Bernkastel. This is the Moselle schedule:
http://www.kd-rhein-main.de/html/Hauptsaison-Mosel.html. "ab" means "leave" and "an" means arrive. "Taeglich" means "daily". It also looks like the Moselle part is over on October 4 but I could be wrong. They have similar schedules for the main and shoulder seasons of the Rhine. The shoulder season begins Oct. 5. Let me know if I can be of any help. I read and speak German. By the way, Germans think that "Bernkasteler Doktor" is the best Moselle wine.

Thank you so much Anna.

I'm in Bacharach from Sept 26 - Oct4 - I think I should do my crusing in Sept. I'm afraid they may shut down in Oct. so pick any date...say Sept 30.

I looked at the KD Line site for Moselle, that you mentioned, and it looks like, for my purposes, the KD only goes from Koblenz to Cochem, if I'm reading it right.

I found another web site for the Klob line company that does the very trip I crave -
Cochem - Bernkastel-Kues. http://www.moselfahrplan.de/

Could you or anyone else read that site for me? it won't translate.

On the Klob map page for the "Bereich Cochem" it looks like they go from Koblenz to Bernkastel-Kues.

If I take the train or the KD line to Koblenz or Cochem from Bacharach that should be easy and then....

Catch the Kolb line from Koblenz or Cochem to Bernkastel-Kues. Is that possible according to their site? do they have dates and departure times?

I looked at their price list page and that looks like they only go from Cochem to Bernkastel-Kues..?????

Once at Bernkastel-Kues, if you could read the site further for me, is it a round trip cruise or am I left there and will either have to pay for a trip back or take another means of transportation.

Thanks - Nova

Nova, sorry I'm responding so late to your questions re the Kolb line on the Moselle; had to be away for a few days. Looking at the Kolb schedule, I find that they do not go to Koblenz at all. The Cochem section has several options but without changing ships you cannot go all the way to Bernkastel. Be aware that they evidently do not have Monday or Friday ships beginning Sept. 1 for their all-day trip from Cochem to Traben-Trarbach and back. It leaves Cochem at 7:30 am and returns at 1900 hrs (7 p.m. - they use the 24 hour clock in Europe). This trip goes through three locks (Schleusse = lock); you have about 1 1/2 hours to in Traben-Trarbach before the boat starts back. The trip from Cochem to Burg Elz - Karden - has three departures per day. That means you can take the first boat, walk up to Burg Elz and then come back and take a later boat back to Cochem. This trip is Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday only. It is less than an hour one-way, looking at the schedule. Another option is the Schleussenfahrt from Cochem - a two-hour round trip that leaves daily till the end of October. I think you can take a later boat back on this trip, too. There's an hour long Mosel Rundfahrt, just a taste of the Mosel. First trip at 11 a.m. Their last option is a trip that begins in Zell and goes to Cochem and back to Zell. Hope that helps a little bit. Best regards, Anna
