We plan to take the last KD boat of the day (steamboat Goethe) from Bacharach to St. Goar on Thursday, 11 July. Does the boat ever "fill up", i.e., is there any chance we wouldn't be able to board? It doesn't appear possible to reserve space on the scheduled KD runs.
Thanks Sam. We will be coming down the Rhein by rail from Switzerland, so I am not sure we can reach Rudesheim by the departure time. Binger might be more doable. I assume the boat continues to fill as it goes downstream, so Binger would be safer than Bacharach?
If you want to be absolutely sure, I'd run down to Rudesheim and board there. Or better yet, board at Bacharach and ride it up stream and stay on board at Rudesheim. Then you'll be pretty sure of getting a good seat.
Yes, but the lion's share will board at Rudesheim. That's where all the package tour groups will disgorge their contents on the boat. They'll all get off at St Goar and back on their tour buses. So if you can get to to Bingen before 3 pm, you can board upstream there. I sits in Rudeheim for an hour before heading back down the River. I see at the site that they do accept and even encourage advance reservations. http://www.kdrhine.com/kdrhinegoethe.htm
