KD Rhine cruise

I have a 15-day Global pass and I'm using 1 of the days for cruising the Rhine river. I was wondering if I need to reserve a seat on the cruise? If so, what's the number or website? Can I bring my carry-on during the cruise? Please reply with helpful info. Thanks.

The K-D line is at www.k-d.de. I don't think there are any reservations, although tickets for any one boat trip could be limited. In busy times, you might want to have your tickets well (several hours) in advance . There is plenty of room on the boats; I don't think there would be a problem bringing a carryon.

Groups of 10 or more people can book tickets online.

I've had one experience where the KD line boat was packed and I couldn't get on. They took about 20 of the 70 or so who were waiting to board. Apparently one boat had been pulled for maintenance and this one was picking up essentially twice the load.

To avoid this possibility stay close to the gangway so you can board early (similar to boarding a plane to get some overhead space). I could tell there was going to be a problem as the boat pulled up to the dock but by then I was too far back in line.

Every other time I was able to get on with no problem so this one was a surprise.

Thanks for the reply guys. My wife and I are planning to take the first boat out from Mainz at 8:45 and just hop-off at St Goar and continue on our train ride to Amsterdam. Hopefully, the boats won't be packed when we board.

We just took a cruise and it was about half full. We had our backpacks with us and had to store them dwnstairs next to the bathroom because we were sitting inside because it was raining but when we were on top we had them with us. get on early to get a good seat... the top is the best on a nice day!
