Hello, Are there any opinions on which route is preferable for reaching Kleine Scheidegg from Lauternrunennen, via Wengen or Grindelwald? Not concerned so much about the cost if one is more spectacular or memorable. I would imagine via Wengen it is a shorter trip.
It is shorter via Wengen. An option if time is not a huge consideration is to go up one way and down the other. For example, you could go up via Wengen since it is slightly more convenient from Lauterbrunnen, then on the descent go to Grindelwald from Kleine Scheidegg and spend some time there before returning via Zwilutschinen. You would need to specify this is what you want when buying the ticket, as the pricing is slightly different, even if you have a pass that covers up to Wengen and/or Grindelwald.
We went up one way and down the other. That way you experience both. Pleasant both ways
If the weather is good - in other words you can see the Eiger - then take the train up to Wengen from Lauterbrunnen and from there take the cable car up to Mannlichen and walk across to Kleine Scheidegg from there - no more spectacular view any where in Switzerland than on that walk. The walk is very easy and about 1.5 hours to do. In Kleine Scheidegg at the train station plan to eat outside by having a wurst, roesti and a beer - just a wonderful place to be.
