I know this is a regular question but here goes anyway with our situation. We are two adults and three children, ages 7,9, and 11. We were not planning to buy a pass as we are only in Switzerland three days and are traveling through Europe by car. After reading and reviewing, I am still not sure what it costs for all of us to go from Lauterbrunnen to the Jungfrau on the train as most information is based on some kind of pass that we do not have. Also we will do the first morning trip which looks to be 25% off. Any help would be great -- I guess I would not do well on the Amazing race as this seems confusing. Your help is appreciated.
The website is www.jungfrau.ch. A regular "Good Morning ticket" from Lauterbrunnen and back is 130 CHF, with "No reductions for children or holders of a Half-Fare Card or General Pass. Free travel for children with a Junior Card when accompanied by a parent." Full price from Lauterbrunnen is 165,80 CHF. You may want to look into getting Junior Card for each or your children so they can go for free. This would cost 30 CHf per child. (I don't think you can get a free Family Card unless you buy a Swiss Pass for one of the adults.) Another option would be for one of the parents to buy a Half-fare Card, and then the children can each get a One-Day Travel Pass for 15 CHF per child. You'll have to add up the various options to see which is best. The Half-Fare Card costs 110 CHF but would reduce the cost of one Jungfrau ticket by 50%. Price for the Good Morning route with Junior cards for the kids would be 2 x 130 plus 4 x 30, or 380 CHF. It is worth asking about the free Family Card, but as I read the website it is only available with a Swiss Pass or Transfer Ticket, not a Half-Fare Card bought in Switzerland.
I'm pretty sure that when you puchase your Swiss Junior Cards in Switzerland at the same time, you only pay for a maximum of two. Anything beyond two children is free. The following is a link on this information. http://mct.sbb.ch/mct/en/reisemarkt/services/fuer-alle/familie/juniorkarte.htm
