Jumping On/Off in Paris...

Fifty years ago I walked all over Parisall day long, for days but now, I am somewhat challenged. I'm wondering if the batobus and on/off bus packages might help my wife and I avoid the metro and the long walks along the prime Seine sights between Eiffel and points east. My concern is that in early September the boats/buses may be crammed, and we'd waste time waiting for the next ride. Are the on and offers worth the five day basic package, i.e. 42 euro for the boats, or should we buy some carnets and stick to city bus system?? Can I take photos from those boats?? Hoping that some of you seasoned travelers can point us in a meaningful direction...

Batobus was designed as a commuter service more than a scenic tour. Many attractions are away from the river and require a walk from the boat docking point. While hop on-off buses are routed to tourist attractions, the drawback is that at favourite points they can take a good deal of time loading and unloading and so are slower than regular mass transport. As to prices, a carnet of tickets is enough discount for me and are easy and quick to buy.

I used the batobus in August with a 5 day pass and don't recall ever having to wait for another boat or having it be jam packed. The stops are at the tourist sites, such as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, etc. Yes, there will still be some walking, but you will have to walk from metro stations and buses too. With the batobus you are above ground and less stairs are involved. The batobus won't help for more inland places like the Arc or Montmartre, but you can metro or take the bus to places harder to reach. The batobus is enclosed by glass, so you can take pictures. I suggest you do a combination of boat and bus.
