Jogging in Paris/Heidelburg/Munich

My husband and I are going to be traveling through these cities in Europe at the end of May and beginning of June. We are hoping to do some jogging while we are there. We are excited about the possibility of jogging along rivers if possible. I was wondering if anyone has experience jogging in these cities or favorite routes they have used. We will also be in Florence for 4 days. If possible, we would like to avoid cars as much as possible.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have walked along both the Neckar River in Heidelberg and the Isar River in Munich (near the Deutsches Museum). There were pedestrian & bicycle paths. (Do not run on a designated bike path if you value your health).

In general Germany is pedestrian friendly. When I lived there years ago, I would run wherever I went. I did not feel that I needed planned routes, I just muddled my way through. I have run in Heidelberg but it was near the army headquarters. I just looked for a clump of trees and found a pathway there to use.

Also in Munich, the Englischer Garten. There's enough pedestrian lanes that you can run from the Viktulienmarkt and to the Englisher Garten and only cross traffic once or twice.

In Heidelberg (and spell it that way if you want a GPS system or website to point you to the right city) a very nice path to walk along is Philopsophenweg (philosophers' path) on this hills across from old town. The river's embankments also work just fine and if you don't mind steeper paths take the cable car to the top and chose one of the paths up on Mt. Königstuhl. You won't be the only one jogging on either one of those mentioned.

I stayed around Eiffel Tower when I was in Paris and went jogging in Champ de Mars.

I agree with Jo. Jog from your hotel to the Eiffel Tower and around the Champs de Mars. Have also jogged from the Arc de Triomphe area, down the Champs Elysees, to the Louvre and back. You can certainly jog along the Seine too.

Along the Seine river there is cobblestone wide walkway that you can jog on. I've never jogged on cobblestones.... don't twist your ankle!

Parisians seem to prefer jogging in parks to the street - the Luxembourg Gardens seems to be a popular spot.
