Hello, I'm trying to have a 10 day girls trip arriving January 2nd in London Heathrow, then on to Either Rome, Prauge, Vienna, and Paris and back to London Heathrow in any order that would be the cheapest and easiest routes. We are open to night trains and day trains as long as they are safe and we don't waste time, since we only have 8 days of site seeing and one day at each end for travel there and home? Thank you for any other great plans or anything exciting happenings in Europe in the first part of January that we shouldn't miss. Teresa
The link below takes you to a general discussion of itinerary planning:Europe Itinerary Planningwhen you get to that discussion, see the first two posts and then you can click on Rail Trip Planning to go to another website that will enable you to estimate travel times by rail and whether air will be better for your trip.
IMO, since you have only eight full days for sightseeing, you need to eliminate some of the places on your list. Jumping from country to country in the short time you have means you would spend more time traveling than you would sightseeing. As Rick Steves says, "Assume you will return." Spend a minimum of two nights--preferably three--in each city.
Of the cities on your list, I've only been to London and Paris. In my mind they are both "must sees" and there is plenty to do indoors if the weather is bad.
I'll leave it to others to recommend which of the remaining cities on your list are the best choices for brief wintertime visits.
After you've narrowed things down a bit, write again and we'll suggest routes and means of transportation.
With only 8 days I would choose two major cities , thats it. London is worth 2 or 3 days, plus throw in a daytrip to Bath( not only to see the Baths, but the Costume and Clothing Museum there is very good I thought. Then take the Eurostar to Paris, which with only 4 or 5 days,, well , you will not be able to see it all anyways.
Or if you insist in rushing about I would do , London, 2 days, Eurstar to Paris , Paris 3 days, and then 3 days in Rome, I would fly into Rome from Paris( it is only 1.5 hours) and out of Rome to London. I would look at Vueling airline as we got great one way rates with them this summer going one way Paris to Rome. Had considered train, but that was an all day or night trip and didn't want to waste so much time, plus train was more expensive then flying.
Pack light.
Really consider a two center holiday,, your trip is just too short to do capitals of the world in 2 days.
