Are the shops and restaurants open?

This is Spain's biggest holiday of the year, much much more important than Christmas. I have no personal experience with Barcelona, as I live in Andalucia, but I believe all the shops would be closed. Most bars and restaurants would be open I think but it may be worth checking - with the hotel or wherever you are staying.
