Hi, I am planning a family trip in May that starts in London and ends in Paris. We have 11 days excluding air time. Having looked at some itinerary suggestions, I am thinking to cover London, Amsterdam, Fussen, Swiss Alps and Paris. I wonder if people on the forum have any suggestions. If this is doable, what is the best way to go from Amsterdam to Fussen? Thanks in advance. Frank
Frank, Given the area you want to cover, I don't believe it will be possible to visit five locations in 11 days (an average of 2.2 days per location, with no allowances for travel times). My first suggestion would be to skip Amsterdam, as that's an "outlier". I haven't looked at this in any detail, so this is a bit of an "off the cuff" suggestion, but this might be one route that would work: > London - 3 days? > Flight to Munich (EasyJet, flight time 2H:50M, departures from LGW or STN, prices as low as £25.99 PP), train to Füssen - 2 days? > Train to Swiss Alps (Berner Oberland region is highly recommended, perhaps Lauterbrunnen or Mürren) - 3 days? > Train to Paris - 3 days? this doesn't allow much time in each location, but given the short time frame it seems like a good compromise. As you'll only be in each location for a short time, be sure to plan your touring efficiently. The country-specific Guidebooks have lots of information on Hotels, restaurants, transportation, sightseeing, etc. Happy travels!
Hi Ken, Thanks for your suggestion. The itinerary is a bit packed. This is our first trip, so want to sample a few different places. I will look into the route you suggested. Seems to make sense. Best, Frank
I suggest that the outlier is Fussen and that you could travel London > Amsterdam > Paris > Berner Oberland (Alps) > fly home from Zurich. Or if you can get cheap airfare from Amsterdam: London > Paris > Amsterdam > Berner Oberland (via Zurich airport) > fly home from Zurich. This is a busy itinerary (I'd drop something else too) but doable and does let you have a reasonable introduction to some great places, plus a spectacular time in the Alps.
