Itinerary question: Ludwig's Castles and the Zugspitze

My trip is scheduled for June. I am planning to see both of the castles (Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein) and the Zugsptize via Ehrwald the same day. I think i have enough time. But the gondola up the Zugspitze stops at 4:00 pm and the castles are open until 5 or 6. Does anyone see a problem with going to the Zugspitze in the morning and the castles in the afternoon. I plan on reserving castle tickets online. I guess my concern is whether the mountain gets fogged in or the gondolas stop running, etc. I will have a car.

I think your plans are perfect. We stay in the Ehrwald area a lot during the summer. We generally wake up to clear skies and sunshine. It's in the afternoon when the clouds build up and there is a threat of rain. Of course, you never know what the weather might be like. Where are you staying the night before? We really enjoy the town of Lermoos. PM me if you need info on a B&B. By the way, to get to the castles, drive through Reutte and Fuessen--not Garmisch. Have fun!
