We're flying into Paris in early Aug. and will fly out of Zurich twelve days later. We will have a car. We've been recently to Paris so don't need to see "the sights." We like hiking and plan to spend a few days in the Val D'Aosta of Italy as well as the French/Swiss Alps (we've been to the Berner Oberland several times; we speak decent Italian and have some French)--maybe in/near Chamonix, but recommendations would be welcome. We like out of the way places, food, wine, and spectacular walks/scenery. Does anyone have favorite places in the area we should try to see? We've heard Vence is nice, for example, and Lucerne (or Geneva). A visit in/around Nice and Monte Carlo would be fun, but will the traffic be unbearable?
