Hi! I have a couple extra days and I'm trying to figure out what I should do to make the most of my trip. Current plan: Day 1: Paris (really just half a day) Day 2: Paris Day 3: Paris Day 4: Leave Paris in AM, travel to Keukenhof Gardens Day 5: Amsterdam Day 6: Utrect, Rotterdam Day 7: Alsace Day 8: Alsace Day 9: Alsace -> ??? Day 10: ??? Day 11: ??? -> London Day 12: London Day 13: London Day 14: London to Iceland Day 15: Iceland to home. During my ?? days, should I fly somewhere like Munich or Nice? Head west to Mont-St-Michel? Hit another part of France? I have friends in Rotterdam, Alsace, and London, thus the extra time in those places. This is my 2nd trip to Europe. First time was the Best of Europe in 21 days, but we started in Brussels on our own and finished in London on our own. This time it's just me going solo. I'm a single female so safety is on my mind~
Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
If you're flying through Iceland on your way home, why not make the most of it and spend a couple of days in Reykjavik? Iceland Air makes it very easy to build in that stopover. The daily bus tour of the Golden Circle is great and Reykjavik is interesting! Just shift your London days a bit forward, and hit maybe Brussels on your way to London??
Janell, I'm a solo female traveler, too. Looking at your itinerary, I'd say you're already traveling between cities a good bit. I'd spend my extra days in Paris or add a day each to Amsterdam and London. Even if you've been there before, you've probably only scratched the surface on your previous tour. Also, if you go to Keukenhof during the tulip-daffodil season, you ought to try for an early-morning visit. The place fills up with tour buses from all over Europe around mid-morning. So, I'd leave Paris for Amsterdam, spend the night and head to Keukenhof the next morning really early, to get there around 9/9:30 am.
I agree with a previous post about going directly Paris to Amsterdam spend the night and early morning head to Keukenhof. The gardens will be a bus ride away from the train station so you will need to plan time for the commute. It is better to be refreshed to spend 3-4 hours at Keukenhof.
Alsace is right across the border (well nearly) from Black Forest- I would be tempted to spend the blank two days there, I love that countryside and the towns aren't bad either. I havent checked out travel routes, but wouldnt it be easier to start in Amseterdam, then Pparis and then Alsace? I would expect that its easier to get to Alsace from Paris than from Amsterdam. or you could easily spend the extra days in and around London- there is so much to do there
My flights are already booked - flying into Paris and then up to Amsterdam for the weekend when my friend isn't working. I already have the Iceland stopover built in to my return trip.
Thanks! I'm still thinking :-)
