itinerary help down the Rhine

We will be leaving Rothenburg on Oct. 21st and arriving in Amsterdam on Oct. 24th. I would like to see as much as possible in these 3days, but I am not quite sure how to organize my time. Bacharach sounds quaint, Rheinfels, St. Goar, Marksburg Castle, Braubach, and Burg Eltz, Cochem all sound so wonderful. K-D Lines does not operate after Oct. 21st so we will be purchasing a Rheinland-Pfalz- Ticket and doing the milk-run trains and hopefully getting off to do some sightseeing. I would appreciate any help with an itinerary and where best to overnight. Thank-you

I'd pick Boppard, just 15 min. from Koblenz and the largest of the villages, where there'll be a little more to do in the off season. Tracks run up and down both sides of the river. You'll be on the "left" side as you travel from Bingen to Boppard, the most scenic section. On one day, I would take the train to Braubach (on the right side) via Koblenz to see Marksburg, then continue south to Rüdesheim to get a look at the river valley from a different perspective and for a look around R'heim. Ferries run all year long - so you can then ferry across to Bingen, see the town briefly, then catch the train north to return to Boppard. Stop in Bacharach, Oberwesel, or St. Goar if there's time - but these towns are pretty close to Boppard, and you could visit them on another day as well. For a daytrip to Cochem, travel again via Koblenz. The falconry shows at Reichsburg Castle are supposed to run through October - Do see one. The chairlift is still open too: http://www.falknerei-reichsburg-cochem.de/fotobuch.htm http://www.cochemer-sesselbahn.de/en/index.htm You might be able to fit in Burg Eltz on the Cochem trip but it would be a long day - the trip involves a 1-hr. walk each way; probably better on a separate day. It could be done on your way to A'dam (leave luggage in Koblenz locker) also if you don't have to be in A'dam early: http://www.bensbauernhof.com/burgeltzfrommoselkern.html Are you on railpasses? If not, there are cheap daypasses for the trains in this area.

Thank-you Russ for all your great suggestions. I have researched them today and they all sound fantastic. If I added another day, in what order would you put things in so I was able to see everything that I want to see plus the things that you have suggested. Thank-you.
