Is this B&B too far from central Salzburg?

I'm planning ahead for our hotel stays (yes, in all likelyhood we will book ahead) and am looking at Salzburg hotels. I came across this B&B: http://www.pension-anif.at/en/package.html Seems quite charming and a good price for our nights in May! It says there is a bus to town, but if we're only staying two days would it be practical to stay that far out? We want to take in the local culture, but also see historic sights.

Also is this "Salzburg" card worth inquiring about? I found a cheap deal for nights on a booking site but might contact them directly and ask for the package cheaper if the card is worth using... Thanks!

In general, I wouldn’t be concerned about staying in a Pension in Anif. It’s a few miles south of Salzburg, and close to Hellbrunn, a major attraction, and you can get to and from town quite easily using public transportation – an O-bus I think. You wouldn't spend much time in transit.

Out of interest, I looked up the place you are interested in on Google Earth. Even though it’s located a little south of Anif, I still wouldn’t be troubled about distance from town. However, it appears the pension is located very close to the Autobahn, and I would be concerned about the noise. There may be effective noise walls between the Autobahn and the Pension, but it’s something to consider. Also, I was not impressed by the price they charge for the room.

If it were me, I would keep looking. A place in the suburbs is generally a good idea, there is great bus or train service connecting all of the small towns around Salzburg to the city. I think Lee in one of his previous posts mentioned that he stayed in Freilassing, on the German side of Salzburg suburbs, for a good price. I’d look into it if I were you.

I’m reconsidering my remarks about price. 134 Euros for two nights for two people, including breakfast and Salzburg Card, is pretty good for a location this close to Salzburg.

I would ask about noise from the Autobahn, though.

I'd check Rick's book. You can find cheaper places closer to town. Like he says, not buying a good guidebook (or an e-version of one) is being penny-wise and pound foolish.
