Is there many day trips from Madrid and Barcalona using public transport?

I would be using public transport.

My home base will be in Barcalona and Madrid.
I would like to see the Dali museum, is that possible via train for the day?
Any good beaches near Barcalona?
Thanks

The Dali Museum is in Figueres, his home town...easily accessible by train, altho times run between 90 minutes and 2:15 depending on which train you catch. From Madrid, day trips are easy to El Escorial (palace and monastery complex begun by Philip II).....the city of Segovia....and the city of Alcala de Henares, a World Heritage city, and birthplace of Cervantes. All these are easily reachable by Madrid regional commuter trains or bus. Also worth a day trip is Toledo, just 90 minutes away via high-speed AVE train. Book that one a day or two ahead of time, because it's a popular destination....especially if you want to get the last train back to Madrid to maximize your day there.

Yes you can get to the Dali by train for the day.
There many beaches near Barcelona. Public
transport is very good in both cities.
The guide books should have a lot of info for day
trips. Also, check the web for tourist sites for
these two cities.
Wearing a money pouch inside your pants, that is
hooked on to your belt, would be a wise thing to do.
