We will be in Schwangau and leave there and we will be staying the night close to the Munich Airport. What I wondered was do you think there is enough time to go to the Eagles Nest from there? Would it be worth the effort and or would it be too long of a day? Suggestions on if we take a tour from someplace or what? We do have a car so any info would be great. Thanks

Why not try Herrenchiemsee- it is closer to your Munich hotel and you can compare castles...

Hi Shelly, That will be a very long day. Figure on 3.5 to 4 hours from Fussen to Berchtesgaden, going by Munich. Add the time to visit the Eagles Nest, then another 2.5 hour drive back to Munich and then to the airport area. Add some traffic or delays and... I would think of an alternate plan. Maybe do the Zugspitze trip, visit Andechs Monastery, or something else that fits the route from Fussen to Munich airport. Keep in mind, the airport is about 30 minutes north east of Munich itself.
