Hi, I wonder if there is a Barcelona Pass just like the Roma pass in Rome where we could get to use public transportation for the time alloted as well a reduced rate for perhaps site like the Segrada Familia? Just bought RS Barcelona book and didn't have a chance to read it yet . We'll be leaving in less than 2 weeks. Barcelona is the last part of our trip and am trying to formulate an itinerary based on recommendations. Thanks a lot.
They do have a card that includes transit (see link below). However it only gives discounts (not for Sagrada) and no free entries. I found the public transit easy to use and don't think a pass like that would be worth it. However I do recommend the Articket. Gets you in to seven museums and skip the lines (often amazingly long) and covers museums for Picasso, Miro, and La Pedrera. It is valid six months so you need not worry about rushing to see everything. I'm not aware of any discounts for Sagrada Familia, but someone can chime in on that point. Both cards can be purchased online ahead of time (at a discount) and picked up at any TI in Barcelona (the airport one is very convenient and speaks English). http://bcnshop.barcelonaturisme.com
Thanks for the suggestion CL.
If you plan to visit the museums mentioned above,I highly recommend the Articket. We did not get one, and were so daunted by the long lines that we did not visit the Picasso and Miro museums as we intended. For transit, I think the best deal may be the T10 ticket. I gives you 10 rides on bus or metro, and 2 or more people can share one.
Thnaks lola. Where do I get the T10 tickets ? Do I get it at the TI station?
We just got back from Barcelona last week! T10 tickets for sure. They cut your metro costs almost in half so they're a great deal. You can get that at any metro ticket machine at the train station or in the metro. Have some cash on hand. They're around 7.80 eur per pass I think and the machines have an english option so it's easy to understand what you're doing.
Check out the Barcelona Card. We purchased it when we went. I printed out the voucher & exchanged it at the airport booth & it included our train from the airport into the city. I can't specially speak to the cost compared to other methods of buying metro tickets, but it was very handy to have it pre-paid. I thought I remember getting to go up the Christopher Columbus monumnet free with the card, but here is a link: http://bcnshop.barcelonaturisme.com/Barcelona-Card/_vf-SMlY1yItM-U_l9RgLJoJPG-BcW4K5Nh9zolHzbfEZHPPl-quGpijiyridJcEtcsglia4xSXwO0xQDtNQPbrzYhwaYsj9naKTcO6jVNNs
The Barcelona Card only gives discounts at the major museums like Picasso and Miro. You still have to wait in line to buy your ticket with the 20% discount. The Articket, on the other hand, is a free enty pass that lets you miss the line. I don't think either one is any help for Sagrada Familia, so best buy advance tickets for that. The Barcelona Card also provides free travel from the airport to the city, but only on the train. You may have to take a shuttle between terminals to catch it, and may have to take a metro at the other end to reach your hotel. The Card give a discount but not free passage on the Aerobus, which we thought was the best option from airport to city center. Unlike the train, which only runs every 30 minutes, the Aerobus runs every 6 to 15 minutes. It makes several stops along Gran Via as well as the Place Universitat and Placa Catalunya stops. It was confortable and inexpensive (5,60 euros each, if I remember correctly.) If you definitely want to visit the major museums, and not wait in line, I think your best choice is the Articket, plus a T10 ticket for transport around the city. If 2 people split the T10 ticket, this will cost less than two 3-day Barcelona cards, plus give you free entry at the museums. I don't think either a T10 ticket or a Barcelona Card will get you on the HOHO tourist bus. But if you have either one of those you won't need the tourist bus.
