For a one-week trip to Paris, is the International Student Identity card worthwhile? What has been your experience?
I had one when I was a student in Austria for a semester, but I only recall using it for a discount anywhere once or twice the whole time. If there is a cost involved now, consider how much you might save in discounts during your week and see how it compares. I'm guessing that for a one week trip, it won't be worth the hassle or cost.
First question is what does it get for you? When we traveled with our college age sons, they always received the student discount by showing their college id.
I say no. You should be traveling with your passport on you at all times anyway. If there's a question as to your age, you can always show them that.
Hi Jennifer. I bought the ISIC card in 2007 right before a trip to Europe and it really didn't help me out that much. It cost $25 so I had to factor that in to my future "savings." For a one-week trip, don't bother. Just use your American student ID.
Just returned from Italy; Rome, Venice, Verona, 8/3/11 and my daughter used her Purdue ID and got the student discount everywhere that offered the discount.
As others noted, most places that give a student discount will accept your normal student ID.
Many thanks for your advice. It looks like for this particular trip I won't need an International Student ID.
