Is Paris a must see?

I am going to France for a week in November and am definately going to the Loire Valley, and my friend really wants to go to the alps. Would it be worth it to squeeze Paris in as well?

If you have the time and won't feel rushed, ABSOLUTELY! I love Paris and would go there everytime I visit Europe if it was possible! Especially if neither of you has ever been, I think it's a must. You'll be within two hours when you're in the Loire, it'd be a shame to skip it!

If you have only a week, go the places you both want to go first; stop in Paris if there's time. Paris is pretty easy to get to anytime; if you can't see it all now, it'll still be there later, an RER ride from CDG.

Yes, even if you stay only for a very short period of time in 1 of the districts. I'm assuming you're from CT. Look at it like you're visiting NYC for the day or 2.

Paris is my favorite European city, by far (which is no knock on anyone else in Europe). I highly recommend that you make time for it if at all possible. You'll fall in love with it, it's so easy to do.

If you had any way at all, you should extend your trip beyond one week. It never fails to amaze me that( mostly ) Americans think they can fit a country visit into such a short time frame. A week equals seeing one city with one day trip out , that is my basic formula anyways.
The airfare is the same for 7 days as it is for 10 ,, so try and squeeze in an extra three or four days, your boss should understand that when vacationing overseas one needs a bit more time.
Australians are the luckiest people ,, they always seem to have weeks upon weeks of vacation time and never seem to come down for less then a month!

Paris is a must. The bigger question is. What do you really want to see given the time you have. How will you be traveling? Train, plane or automobile? Spending a day or two in Paris will give you a taste of that great city. It is possible to enjoy parts of Europe in less than 7 days. When we do quick trips, we try to travel less than 500 miles 1 way. We're doing it again soon. Munich, Rothenburg, Fussen, Garmisch, Munich. Good luck

a week is short..i'd send one of you to the Loire, and the other to the Alps...but they're JUST mountains, and probably no snow in November..."Squeezing" in Paris might be a good idea.
Too bad Tim from Minot,ND hasn't answered...he gives good precise advice.

It's one of those cities that you ABSOLUTELY have to see at least once in your life.

Darcy,

I agree with Pat. Expand your trip!!! It's like going to the Grand Canyon and not going into the park. November is a good time 45-55 degrees. Two places for a short visit Eiffel Tower and Sacre Coeur Montmartre.

Enjoy your trip!!

Thanks for all the advice! I wish I could spend longer than a week in France, but I can't afford extra nights (even in hostels) and meals (even picknicking) unless I don't want to have any money for sight seeing. In regards to my friend and I splitting up, I don't know if I would feel comfortable traveling alone, and I would like to go to the alps too. Maybe she will agree to spending a day in Paris like we were originally planning so I can at least get a taste of it. (she's already been there.)

Paris is to be savored. If you cannot spend seversl days there, dont go. Paris is a magical city and has much to offer- save it for another trip.

I think that it is absolutely worth it to go to Paris, even if just for a day. Specifically because that will be just long enough for you to see what you're missing and you'll make it a goal to come back for longer.

You'll fall in love with Paris. I have yet to meet anyone who hasn't.
