I am coming from the US, am a fairly active senior, traveling solo, without a word of Spanish . I will have two weeks in late October/early November this year. My preference is find a spot to dig in, walk everywhere, take public transportation when walking is not enough. Love the sea and seeing sights/sites. Given all those considerations, would you think Mallorca only would be a good fit? Given lack of Spanish, should I stick with France?
English and German are widely understood on Mallorca, and the local language is actually Catalan, although most inhabitants will also speak Spanish. There is lots to see and do, although you may find some tourist places closed at that time of year. We went in January once and the weather was bright and sunny.
I'm assuming you've checked out their web site - I think it's a good place to go, except at that time of year I'd consider the Canary Islands, instead. The same holds true there, lots of English and German spoken, since those folks like to flee the often cold and rainy weather in their own countries. Many of them have condos or homes there that they rent out when they're not using them. You still have time to check the guide books and web sites to pick an island in the Canaries or a spot on Mallorca. Keep in mind you may want to rent a car for a couple of days, to tour the island.
