Is anyone familiar with Issoudun, FR?

Due to business, we might "tack-on" a trip to Issoudun to our family vacation in Italy. I'm looking for a out of town hotel/B&B within easy commuting distance, or a small hotel in town. We will be with our three children (2 teens, One 6 years old). Mid-July, 1 week.

I guess no one on this forum has been there. It's not in the tourist books, I understand you're going there due to business. I suggest you use www.viamichelin.com to find Issoudun, and once found, use the Michelin site to select suitable choices for accommodations, then choose from one of those, if it's Michelin rated then you know it's not going to be a dump.

I have visited Issoudun a few times. We were staying in Nohant (where George Sand was born) at a lovely hotel, the Auberge de la Petite Fadette. It is in a tiny village, where the only other buildings are the George Sand house, the tiny church, and a few farmhouses. The food is excellent. Nohant is due south of Issoudun on route D918. I can't determine from my road atlas the mileage, but I would guess it's about 40 miles. Issoudun as I recall is not particularly charming.

Leanne, do you know that the Tour de France will pass through Issoudun on July 14 (which, of course, is also a French holiday). Issoudun has a nice website, listing, among other things, restaurants and hotels (with price ranges). www.issoudun.fr
If you don't speak French, you can google Issoudun and get a translation of the site (don't know how good that is; my French is sufficient to read it.)
