Is A/C a must in Paris in June?

Hey

I'll be travelling for about 2 1/2 months staying in low end / hostel type accomodations for my trip. However by mid June I'll be in paris where my mom will be joining me on my trip. I think I'll be ok without A/C but my mom seems to think it's a must have. My budget's gonna be tight by then so I'm trying to cheap out as much as possible with the accomodations. Do you think A/C is a must in mid to late June in Paris?

Thanks!

We've been to Paris at the beginning of June 4 times. Only once was it really hot and that was during the day. The night cooled off enough that a/c wasn't necessary.

Hi Shauna,
I don't think you'll need A/C in Paris in June- I live on the south coast of the UK, so it's not that far away, and unless there's a heatwave, you should be OK without it.
Now I've said that, watch the Weather Witch make it hot!

Shauna, its such a crap shoot. Every time I go in July or August I seem to hit a heat wave, I roast. I always get a/c. Last year , I went in August, told my friend who had never been to " bring sundresses, cool skirts, and sandals,, LOL " what a dummy, it was cold and rainy for almost our entire 9 day visit!! I mean wearing long pants and fleece jackets, which was hilarious as we only had one pair of long pants each and one long sleeved shirt.

I now completey give up and am at the mercy of weather .....

One note, if you choose to go the no a/c route, for goodness sake make sure your hotel is either on a quiet street or your room opens into a courtyard( with no early am garbage pick up hopefully, LOL ) since you will need to at least have your windows open sometimes for air and you don't want to have street noise be a big issue.

Stayed over 2 weeks in Paris in early/mid August and really only used the a/c in my place 2x. Sure, I was glad to have it, but if there had been a fan in the room, I would have made out just fine.

That said, you just can't predict from one summer to the next. If your mom thinks it's a must have, then maybe she will split the difference in the room cost with you.

While it isn't a hostel, you might want to try the Ibis chain of hotels. No Parisian/Old World charm, but they have air conditioning and elevators and the rates are pretty cheap.

Hi Shauna, When I'm in Europe in the summer I go to a discount store and buy a cheap oscillating fan (10 euros or less) and keep it in my car for use in hotel rooms and rental apartments. Even in warm weather, I can sleep well with the fan on low. I give it to someone before I fly home. It's not AC, but it is cheap.

June may be warm or even hot. Even if you have hot days, chances are good it will be cool at night. By the time you are in your hotel it should be comfortable enough for sleeping.

Shauna,

This past year we had little summer to be seen and it was quite cold. So it is difficult to tell what would will come this year.

Most Parisian homes do not have A/C - as the cost is so expensive here - and hard to install in such old buildings.

I like the fan idea offered to you, sometimes a hotel will have this as well if they do not offer A/C.

My advise would be to consider whether or not you will be able to bare your mother if following jet lag she is unable to sleep and be comfortable.

Bon chance
