Is it necessary to use a voltage converter (as well as an AC adapter) in Europe when charging iPods? I know from experience that it is not needed for laptops, just curious about iPods as I will be bringing one this time instead of my laptop. Thanks
Question answered. Thanks, Tim.
And if you really want to go crazy, you can buy Apple's World Travel Adapter Kit: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB974ZM/B?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY#overview
It is in microscopically small print - but the white OEM Ipad power adapter (US purchase of Ipad) is UL lablelled "100-240V". That means, without any doubt, that you only need a plug/prong adapter. No transformer is needed. (Note that big, non-transformer 240-to-120 voltage adapters are often unsuitable for electronics, but are intended for hair dryers. RTM.) To be even more confident, get a magnifying glass and look at your charger. And remember that other USB power adapters may not put out enough current to charge an Ipad that is "in use."
Will, I suggest running into a department store and getting the ipod charger. I did this in Germany, it is cheaper than the Apple rip off world voltage kit and I've taken my charger all over Europe and the Middle East.
I charge my iPod Touch using only the adapter. No converter is needed.
