I realize this is the "umpteenth" time this question has been asked, but I scanned recent posts and can't find earlier responses that I know I've seen. That said what airlines should I search to find budget air fare for one-way flights Paris-Geneva, Munich-Hamburg and Hamburg-Paris? My wife and I will have only a small carry-on bag, but we still need to land in each city at an airport linked to the city via train. We're not hitch-hikers. So as not to take up space on the Helpline, those responding may send me a PM if they wish.
Check with both whichbudget.com and kayak.com to check airlines and fares. For Paris to Geneva is makes more sense to take the train. There are direct TGV trains that will get you to Geneva in 3 hours. http://www.tgv-europe.com If you book well in advance you can get restricted fares for as low as 20 euros.
I agree with Michael on the TGV ride to Geneva from Paris. By the time it takes to clear security at either CDG or Orly, you're most of the way to Geneva. BTW, where do you go from Geneva? It looks like you end up in Germany somehow.
Larry:
Since you asked: Our first stop is actually Lausanne where we'll visit a couple of days, we than go to Montreux to board the Golden Pass train to Zweisimmen to Spiez then to Interlaken. We pause in Interlaken (thanks to a terrific response to an earlier post on RS Travelers Helpline to take the cograil to Heimwehfluh. We then train-on to Luzern for an evening and partial next-day visit, then on to Munich via train. My wife and I hope to get an "introduction" to Switzerland during this time. I'm glad to receive the post from you and Michael clarifying the trip from Paris to Geneva via TGV train. The train will work out fine as the departure from Paris would have terminated at the train station in Lausanne anyway. If you have any recommendations for specific places to visit during our stops in Lausanne and Luzern, I'd be happy to receive them.
Lausanne has the new official Olympics Museum. Modern museum with excellent exhibits: http://www.olympic.org/museum-information Luzern has Switzerland's most popular museum: The Swiss Transport Museum. http://www.verkehrshaus.ch
Check with swoodoo.com for each of the routes. Sometimes roundtrips are cheaper than one-ways, so search for a return flight a week later or so.
