We are renting a camper/van for 3 weeks in July. We will be in Germany,Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland and possibly drop down to Cinque Terra in Italy. We were wondering if the International Camping Card is worth its money. It costs $50 plus $10 shipping!!!
What is the International Camping Card? Who issues it?
The International Camping Card(Carnet) is issued by Family Campers & RVers (www.fcrv.org)and was mentioned in one of Rick Steves' books on camping.
After looking over their website I can say that it wouldn't be worth the cost to me. I wouldn't have any interest in buying from the places that offer discounts, and unless you know the name of the specific campground you want to check, you can't tell if any particular campground offers a discount. For your trip, the rallies and planned activities of the organization wouldn't apply, either. I don't think I would spend $60 on the off-chance that I might find a discount or two on camping.
Thanks. That's what I was thinking, too.
