Any suggestions as to a good, clean moderate price hotel in Interlaken possibly near the Ost Station. A B&B would be acceptable as well.

You know that you can take the 20min train ride from Interlaken Ost into Lauterbrunnen and stay there quite reasonably. Even RS says to do that in his book. But, if its Interlaken, www.tripadvisor.com shows 67 hotels in Interlaken. CLICK HERE to see a map and a list.

Shelley, if you are open to staying near Interlaken West, the Hotel Rugenpark B&B is fantastic. It's inexpensive--actually called a "budget hotel"--yet very comfortable. And the breakfast buffet the hostess serves is like none other you will find. We stayed there even though we were heading into the mountains from Interlaken. It's only a 20-minute walk from Interlaken West to East and a few-minute train ride. I don't recall as much lodging near Interlaken Ost as near the west station.

Why would you want to stay in Interlaken, when a short, scenic train ride will take you to Lauterbrunen which is SO much more beautiful - and even up to Gimmelwald (Rick's 'heaven') or Murren.

I've stayed at the Hotel Lotschberg and have had a pleasant time. It's recommended in Rick's Guidebook and the owner has appeared in Rick's TV shows.
