Has anyone gone to the French institute in Villefranche sur mer? Also, curious about apartments near the french institute. I am thinking of going there for two weeks this summer and then my family will come and meet me for the 3rd week? Any advice would be great:)
Haven't done the Villefranche institute but there's also IS-Aix-en-Provence, which is also gorgeous if half an hour inland. You can design your own level of immersion through many different combinations of courses, discussions, and activities/excursions. They also have a variety of accommodation choices, including apartments. www.is-aix.com.
Hi, I attended IDF for 2 weeks in 2005 and 4 weeks in 2006. Best thing I ever did. The instructors were great, as were the people who I met. Villefranche is an idyllic town. Apartments arranged by IDF vary greatly, mainly depending on price. The apartment may be near the old town by the sea, or up the hill nearer to the institut. Each has its pros and cons (Caution Villefranche is built on a very steep hill). My first time I had a studio. Not much larger than a closet, but it was clean with a good shower. The bed was small, but I fell out only once. Second time I had a normal private apartment that included a balcony with a stunning view of the bay. Furnishings were spartan but adequate. My main advice about studying at the IDF is that, for maximum learning and enjoyment, play their game and leave your inhibitions at the door. See their website if you haven't already. If you would like some specific details, you can post your questions on the forum or send me a private message for a lengthier response, as this forum limits message length. Bonne chance, Mike
