How does this look? Pick up rental car in Bilbao (after spending a few days in this area) Drive to Segovia with stop en route in Burgos Spend the night in Segovia Drive to Toledo, with stop at Valley of the Fallen drop off car and spend the night in Toledo
Train to Madrid for several days there. We are trying to minimize driving and parking, and would like to enjoy nights in both Segovia and Toledo, rather than just day trips. Any input appreciated!
There is plenty to see in both Segovia and Toledo to justify overnights there, for sure. And Burgos is one of my favorite Spanish cities! If you have time, El Escorial is very near Valley of the Fallen, and is a fascinating place.
thanks Nancy. Do you have any input of car parking in Segovia?
It's going to be tight, but you can pull it off if you're careful. The first day if four hours of road time. Two hours for the second. You need two hours in Burgos, plus whatever it takes for lunch. Four hours will get most of Segovia, and you can do some of it after supper. If you're going to eat dead pig at Candido's, that's a two-hour project. You'll need reservations so make them a couple of weeks (at least) ahead of time. I rank it among the top five places in the world I've ever eaten. An hour and a half is enough for the Valley of the Fallen. El Escorial takes two to four. Personally, I'd swap both out for Avila, especially if you've never seen a really good walled city - - it would add an extra hour or road time, however. Four or five will get most of Toledo. Parking's not a problem in Segovia. Unless Nancy has better scoop, most of it is on the east side of the aquaduct within a couple of blocks (but the best views, etc are from the west side). Candido's is on the west side also.
Nope, I have no info about parking in Segovia. I came there in a taxi from a nearby town. There seemed to be parking right around the aqueduct, but I couldn't swear to it.
thanks so much for the input Ed. My husband was born in Spain and has chosen the Valley of the Fallen as a must see site. Will consider El Escorial and Avila. Boy it's hard to try to fit everything in istn't it! Thanks again for great advice.
