Would you skip Salzburg if you were going to Innsbruck? I'm considering Innsbruck mainly because I'd like to make a sidetrip to Merano or Bolzano from there. On the map it doesn't look too far.

Nope. I'd skip Innsbruck (and its highly touted but highly unimpressive golden shed roof) and go to Salzburg. But that's me.

A: No I wouldn't skip Salzburg for Innsbruck or Bolzano. Salzburg is one of Europe's gems. I wouldn't miss it. Paul

I vote to skip Innsbruck, but see Salzburg. In fact, I say "don't miss Salzburg." @ the very least, only a minimum amount of time is needed for Innsbruck.

It would be akin to skipping Yellowstone in favor of your neighborhood park...Innsbruck was good for a train change, but that was about it IMHO.

I wasn't thrilled with Salzburg, but I thought Innsbruck had less. However, if you want to go to Bolzano, it's only a couple of hours from Innsbruck, but a lot farther from Salzburg. And, if you go to Bolzano, you get to go over Brenner Pass.
