Innsbruck to Fuessen

We are now taking the train from Salzburg to Innsbruck and then renting a car to travel along the Romantic Road in Germany. We have only one day so we are traveling as far
as Rothenburg and then going back to Innsbruck.
Has anyone done this before and can let me know what
to expect in terms of the route and the time needed.

Thanks

We're doing something similar in June -- so I am curious about the same.

However, we're driving Salzburg through Innsbruck to Shcwangau -- one night there -- then up to Rothenburg for a night before heading back to Munich.

Hi Kelly,
You seem to be doing a full circle trip which sounds great if you have the time.
Our base is Salzburg and as we only have about 12
hours to get to Bavaria and back to Salzburg taking the train to Innsbruck elminated about 3 hours of
driving. Once in Innsbruck we will drive across to Bavaria which is about 2 hours away.
We too intend to go as far as Rothenburg. Since you are going in June and I am going in July I would be happy to get any feedback from you. Have a great trip!

Nadine, are you saying you're doing Innsbruck-Rotenburg-Innsbruck in just one day? Or one day per leg?

This is too far for an out and back one day trip. As much as I enjoyed Rothenburg, I suggest seeing some small bavarian villages and just drive the "romantic road" route a ways. We found that every little town had wonderful baroque churches (often don't look like much on the outside). Save Rothenburg for when you can stay at least one night.

I agree! From Innsbruck, do Garmisch, the Zugspitze and Bad Tölz in one day. You'll have plenty of pitoresque Bavarian village and the view from Germany's tallest mountain into the Austrian alps and Bavaria all the way to Munich is breathtaking.Tip: The cable car from the Austrian side up to Zugspitze is €10 cheaper per person than the Bavarian one. They end up on the same summit, don't worry ;-)
