Innsbruck, Austria??

After 5 months studying abroad in Italy I realized that I really want to go back. My school is offering a program in Innsbruck, Austria that is almost too good to be true...

Does anyone have any opinions on Innsbruck? I only visited Salzburg & Vienna but i've had friends love it, and others say its not the best place to stay but a great 'hub' to travel.

I'll be living in Innsbruck for 4 weeks & traveling before and after my program starts and ends.

Thoughts?

Not my absoulte favorite city to visit... but looks like a great place to live, especially in the winter.

While it does not have as many sites as Vienna and Salzburg, it is a great hub. Just plan to use your free time traveling around the area. There are wonderful sites and towns that you can visit and be back in a day. Of course if you've got a week end that are many places within stiking distance. Since you have been to Salzburg and Vienna, my first 2 choices for week end visits would be Munich and the Dolomites. Have a great time.

Hi JB,

Innsbruck isn't high on my list of favorites, but the area certainly is. As for being a great hub... I would agree. Just some places which are very worthwhile (and easy) from Innsbruck:

Hal in Tirol (about 20 min. away)

Mittenwald, Germany (45 min)

Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany and the Zugspitze (about an hour away)

Fuessen and Neuschwanstein/Hohenschwangau castles (less thn 2 hrs away)

Sterzing/Vipiteno, Italy (about 40 min. away)

Brixen/Bressanone, Italy (an hour or so away)

Times are approx. of course, but there are plenty of places to see based in Innsbruck.

Best of luck.

Paul

Just to add... if you are a skier and you're there in the winter... welcome to paradise. If you're not a skier... welcome to your best ever chance to learn.

I'll echo Paul. Not my favorite place but I certainly would jump at the opportunity. It does make a difference on time of year. In winter, Innsbruck is situated close to a number of ski areas. In summer, it's easier to travel around the area.
