Inexpensive Hotel in Salzburg

Does anyone have a recommendation for an inexpensive place to stay in Salzburg? Will be going in mid-March.

See if the Gasthof John is still available. Look on Tripadvisor.

I guess that inexpensive is relative to the going market rate. Salzburg is not much of a budget stop. We stayed at the Hotel Bergland last summer in a nice residential area about 10 minutes walk from downtown. Breakfast was standard, fairly good, and the staff was very helpful.

I see that it is closed for renovation but due to open March 3rd.

Check out the Institute San Sebastian. It's more like a hostel. It's cheap, clean and quiet. I've stayed there alone in a room with other travelers as well as with my family of five. I don't know if they have rooms year round. I have only been there in September and October.

Kathy, my wife and I stayed at a B&B (Pension-Hotel Sallerhof) which is about a 12 minute bus (#25)ride through great Sound of Music countryside last July. We each paid 28 Euro per night. This is a new place, specially desighed as a B&B when it was built. The owner speaks excellent english and booked us on a SOM tour and a Mozart dinner and music. Parking is free at the B&B. Contact informations is as follows: E-Mail [email protected] or www.sallerhof.at Have fun, Dorsey

This of course is just my opinion about St. Sebastian, but I didn't like it. For breakfast all we got was bread and water (well, tea too). I went this past summer in July. The rooms are clean though.

I can't say anything but good things about the Austrohotel. We arrived in Salzburg after 10 p.m. by train. We were late due to a train breakdown, which caused subseqent layovers. Anyway, we were supposed to stay at a RS-recommended hotel in the old city but they turned us away (yes, we had reservations). Our taxi driver kindly drove us from hotel to hotel and ran into to each one to ask about prices. We got what we considered a good rate, considering the circumstances, at just under 100 euros a night. Worth every euro!

The service was excellent. The full, complimentary breakfast was excellent. The location was excellent. The room was excellent. The amenities were excellent. We'd stay again in a heartbeat.

Kathy,
... above Golden Duck [funny name, historical place] with wonderful food and lodgings. Check it out. It's right in the middle of Salzburg's Alt Stadt... Gute Reise ..
