Inexpensive and chic Parisian clothing?

I have a trip planned to Paris in about a month. This will be my third trip to Paris, but I have yet to find a clothing store that offers very nice clothes without the high price tags. On my last trip I was just amazed by the clothes I saw in many windows, but couldn't succumb to spend a fortune on just a shirt or pair of pants. I've checked out Galeries Lafayette, Bon Marche, Printemps, and BHV. Nothing too exciting there. I was wondering if anyone knows of any good value clothing stores that sell nice clothes? By nice, think along the lines of what Banana Republic/Ben Sherman/Macy's would carry. Thanks.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention...I'm looking for independent stores or stores that are equivalent to the ones I mentioned above. So you can cut out H&M, Zara, etc. Something that you can't find over here.

It sounds like you've checked the main shopping options...Bon Marche would be my first choice. Monoprix is sort of like Target--you could check there. Also, ask someone living in Paris where they shop--they would know of neighborhood boutiques.

You might look at some shopping guidebooks for Paris--I've checked out a few from the library that cover clothes, though I don't remember anything like what you're looking for. I've been told that the French spend more on fewer but higher quality pieces than Americans (and that this is one reason that accessories like scarves are important), so maybe inexpensive clothing stores just aren't common.
