Only have time for one. Has anyone had experience with either the Concerts at Five or the Mozart Piano Sonatas. Both performances are short which works out perfectly for us. ANy preferences??
I am not certain what concerts you mean by this....but in case it is this.....2 weeks ago we were there and we went to a dinner concert (at about 7pm) at the abbey in the upstairs room ( I forget the names of so many things -keep a diary-wish I had)......it was fancy a five piece string set of numbers with operatic singers coming in at certain times to do a piece with them....it was mostly candle lit you really got a feel of how things were and looked long ago. They performed between courses. But I believe Rick reviewed this also, and he was right on the meals...you got more for your money with the atmosphere/sense of place...when it came to the meal parts of it were very good, but in general the food I had in Salzburg at local places was far above it. There is a very interesting restaurant below it...dark and in the basement...candle lit also and I don't know if you have any music there..but I would have gone there too if I had more time....I could spend many nights in that city!!!! It was a memorable experience non the less. It does take up your whole evening tho. 3hrs? and you sit with others at tables of 6...we only sat with another couple and enjoyed hearing about life in India, where they were from.
The Concerts at Five are called just that - Concerts-at-Five - and are in Rick's books. The Mozart Piano Sonatas are called simply that. Both last about 45 minutes to an hour or so. Concerts at Five start at 5 p.m. and the piano concert starts at 7 p.m. Either of these will work for us time wise - and we will be seeing lots of music all throughout our trip but wanted to make sure we saw something in the evening in Salzburg. Was hoping someone has had experience with these and could suggest a preference. Thanks.
Hi Doreen!
We just returned from Salzburg. I'm not familiar with either concert you name but I'll share what we enjoyed.
We attended an evening concert in Mirabel Palace. It's a beautiful baroque room. We say a solo pianist from Russia who was spectacular. The room is comparatively small & you can see & hear from every point in the room.
We also attended an 11:30 am concert in a room at St. Peter's Church. (These may be on Friday only). We heard four cellists play in an intimate romanesque room. Both of these concerts were world class!
Enjoy!
Donna
P.S. We also loved "The Magic Flute" at the Marionette Theatre.
