We will be in Paris on Bastille Day. We don't like to be in large crowds, so want to avoid any big public celebrations. Are most restaurants and museums closed? Are the tour companies and boat rides operating that day? Basically, what is available on this day?

Everything's open. The only crowds are long the Champs Elysees prior to and during the parade, they thin out immediately. Two blocks to either side, it's about normal. Crowds build again for the fireworks and take longer to thin. Watch from the quais and bridges and it won't be so mobbed.
