We have arrived in Paris to discover that our RS book did not make the voyage with us! It is waiting patiently on our coffee table for us to return from our vacation (needless to say hubby is in the doghouse right now!) We will go in search of one here but in the meantime could someone please tell us the Metro stop and directions to the Marche aux Puces at St. Ouen?
Merci Beaucoup!!
Shakespeare & Co carries Rick Steves books (at least they did when I found myself in the same situation about a year ago). Latin Quarter across the Petit Pont from Notre Dame
Take the number 4 to Porte de Clingnancourt. You'll coome out on a busy street by the elevated freeway that is the Peripherique. Walk under and about a block up when you see a lot of secondhand electonic and clothes stands (lots of Bob Marley). That is not the Marches. Turn left when you can and walk in. You'll find them there.
Try the San Francisco Bookstore on 17 Rue Monsieur le Prince 75006 Paris, France 01 43 29 15 70 Open Mon-Sat 11am-9pm; Sun 2pm-7:30pm
Subway: Odéon It's a second hand store and have seen RS books in the past.
I say this with all due respect and understand the use of the book but you're now in Paris, make it an adventure and cut the imbilical cord of the help line, use local resources!
@Barry... great advice...I briefly read mine at home and rarely bring one, but if I do, I find I don't look at it... too much excitement and fun to figure it out on my own.
We ran into Rick's book several times when we were in Paris. There was one in the lobby of our hotel. "Hotel de la Motte Piquet" at the end of Rue Cler and at La Varangue - Philippe's Restaurant (27, rue Augereau) (delicious food, by the way). Perhaps you run into one as well. Not sure if they would let you borrow, but maybe you could take a peek and jot down some notes. Have a great time!!
Buy the book that has all the arrondissements in Paris in it. It shows all the streets, Metro stops. Not sure about bus stops. Great little book. I have seen them in red covers and blue covers.
Paris Pratique is the little book that has every street mapped out arrondissement by arrondissement. About 5€ at newsstands.
Good thread here. LOL.
Let's see if you will choose to cut the umbilical cord or not. Let us know how you fare. And have a great time!
Thanks for the directions. We found St. Ouen with no problems. We decided against buying another book here in Paris. This is our 6th visit to the city and we have already done the majority of attractions. I just like to have his book for the history information. We were also considering a couple of daytrips and I find his train information easy to use and a good jumping off point for ideas. Besides, more fun to spend that book money on pastries and wine :-) Thanks to everyone for their assistance and advice!!
