In desperate need of Hotel Recommendation in Munich

Hello All, I have decide to go to Munich for 6 nights and I can't find a Hotel. I have never been there and I don't know the preferred neighborhoods to look for. To make it more complicated we are arriving third week of September when Oktoberfest begins. Any recommendation please...

"we are arriving third week of September when Oktoberfest begins" You're not making this any easier. I show some hotels on the bottom of my web page. Uhland is a nice place, but don't even think about them during Oktoberfest. Even the others might be already booked or want a lot. At this point, you might consider someplace outside of town. It might only be a half hour or so into town. Unless you can speak German, I can't really help you.

Wyna, It is during this time period that the hotels increase their rates. If you have nothing against staying around the Hbf (main train station), there are numerous hotels and Pensionen at both ends of the station on Bayerstrasse and Arnulfstrasse. Also on Schillerstrasse, where they are more in the budget range. This is the area I stay, was there in June and later in July too.

Wyna, I'd normally recommend Hotel Uhland, but in this case I have to "second" Lee's comment regarding booking there at this time of year. It's located only a block or so from Theresienwiese (where Oktoberfest is held), so I'm sure the Hotel was fully booked months ago. That may be the case with many of the Hotels in Munich. However, check their "availability" page, as there are still a few nights open (but not for six nights). Depending on what kind of budget you're working with, you might have a look at the Sofitel Munich, which is right next to the rail station. It will be "pricey" but I'm sure you'll be VERY comfortable. I can tell you from personal experience that the gourmet restaurant at the back of the Hotel serves excellent food! You might check your local Library or larger bookstores to see if you can find a copy of the Germany Guidebook, as there are lots of listings there for Hotels in Munich. Munich is one of my favourite cities in Europe, so hopefully you'll be able to find a room. Good luck and happy travels!

Hi Wyna-Munich is one of my favorite cities-so much to do, and very walkable. Trains to everywhere! That being said, staying in the city is fun. I have stayed 3 times at the Hotel Torbrau, right off the end of the Marienplatz.a 5 minute walk. The Isator train is about 300 feet from the hotel. The breakfast is great, and I walk at night until midnight and still feel very safe coming in. I have stayed for business and pleasure. The rooms are very upscale basic, very clean, and there is a free business center with wifi if necessasry. They may be able to accommodate you. Have fun!

I just looked at www.laterooms.com which I have found is a good site. I see that starting Sept 16 many of the prices more than double so that there are very few rooms for under $200/night.

Try the NH hotel in Unterhaching - the S-bahn is a 3 minute walk from the hotel - you are 15 minutes from downtown by S-bahn. I had a suite there with refrigerator, microwave, hotplate - there are 2 supermarkets a 3 minute walk from the hotel. The breakfast served by the hotel is great and you may save some of the increased costs associated with hotels in Munich at Oktoberfest time by being able to cook some meals.

You might need to look a little outside central Munich. A good clean budget hotel on the outskirts, but still within the city limits is Hotel Imperial, 463 Landbergerstrasse, Tel: 089820 7980. The tram to the centre stops almost outside the hotel and runs until the wee small hours. A really nice hotel with a German feel and with a great beer garden, but out of the city limits but still with good frequent S Bahn links to central Munich is Hotel Weissbrau, Hubertus Platz 5, Deisenhofen, 82041 Unterhaching Tel: 089 6131. It is about a 10 minute walk to the station. Let me know by PM if you would like me to check availablity for you.

If there at Oktoberfest, you will need to stay outside of town. What isn't already booked in town will be VERY expensive. Honestly, I wouldn't even waste time trying hotels in town. Get a map and look for decent sized towns along the train line about an hour outside of town. Good luck.

The hotel I mentioned in Deisenhofen is quite some distance south of Munich. I would imagine that there could still be availability. We stayed there 3 years ago and didn't book until the January.

Wyna, try Haus Bauer in the town of Gauting which is southwest of Munich. You can walk from this pension to the city train (S-bahn, I think) that will take you right into downtown Munich. Hope you find something and have a good trip!

Wyna, Dianne and I are staying at Pension Schererhof near Poing (about 10 tube stops from Munich center) for less than $100 a night, Sept 29 - Oct 2.
[email protected]. In town rate are 2-3 times normal during the Oktoberfest. Maybe see you there.

You're sure asking for economic persecution trying to book a room in Munich during their beer fest. Try outside of city limits and use their vast and efficient transportation system.

It's very expensive, it increase 3 times the normal rate. I will be at the same time, we will be at Füssen, and we will visit Munich, and in the nignt we'll take the train to Budapest. Another opcion is looking for a place one hour or so of Munich metropolitan area. Less expensive even if you pay train ticket...
