Love to hear your opinions of St Tropez, especially being there the first part of July. Also any coastal towns between Marseille and Nice, must sees or stay away froms...
Merci
Sorry I haven't been to St Tropez but I've read that it's very crowded in July with lots of traffic.
Cassis, Villefranche sur Mer, and Cap Ferrat are very nice to visit. If you like art, Renoir's home in Cagnes sur Mer is wonderful.
I would rate Antibes as a "must see." There is a daily market inside the walled old town and the Picasso museum is excellent. The beach is sandy.
IMO, Cannes is "famous for being famous." It's expensive and definitely skipable.
We did not go the St. Tropez, but I agree with Tim about Antibes. Plus parking is easy in the lot by the port and it's a short walk to the market and the old town. Loved Picasso Museum, as much for the building itself and the views from it as for the art. We stayed at Hotel Welcome in Villefranche sur Mer and while it is expensive, our balcony overlooked the port and the view (of the bay and Cap Ferrat) was splendid. I think Villefranche is the perfect place to stay because it is a small town but only a 10-15 minute bus or train ride or drive to Nice, a bit longer to Monaco. Good central location for beach spots as well as inland places like Vence and St. Paul de Vence.
