If you had a choice...Zurich or Frankfurt

I posted earlier about cheap flights in November to Zurich so we could go to Strasbourg but now it looks as though many of the vineyards will be closed - minimal tastings available. Now we are trying to decide between Zurich (maybe go to Interlaken for a couple days) or Frankfurt (Rothenburg - wurzburg...or maybe take the train to the Rhine Valley??). I am in the process of scouring the Rick Steves books and the tripadvisor website but if anyone could give us advice - it would be appreciated.
Thanks

Zurich was a bit dull; Frankfurt itself isn't that worthy but close to so much more. Weather will be milder in Frankfurt area as a rule. German Christmas markets (Mainz, Ruedesheim, near FRA, are very good)are in full swing at the end of the month. I'd probably choose FRA.

I would agree with Russ. We found Zurich to have no charm whatsoever. I would visit Rothenburg and Heidelberg. Both are quite close to Frankfurt.

My wife and I like flying into Frankfurt. We always rent a car. From there we go east to the Romantic road and follow it to Fussen. Heidelberg is also nice, only about an hour or less from FRA by Autobahn. I agree that we have not found Frankfurt itself to be interesting. In Heidelberg we have stayed at the Hotel Europische(?) a few times. It is not far from the street closed to traffic for pedestrians. I'm sorry I can't remember the name. We never make reservations, just stay as we go. We have done this in March and September in the past. Maybe we will pass each other in November (Thanksgiving).
