Is an international driving license required when renting a car at CDG?

No. France does not require International Driver's Permits (note - permit, not license).

Lew,

As the others have mentioned, an International Driver's Permit is not compulsory in France (AFAIK). I always travel with one anyway, as it may help to some extent if I'm ever stopped by the Police.

One thing I would recommend is a GPS and/or a really good Map.

Happy travels!

Like Ken, I get an IDP when driving outside of an English speaking country, just to be on the safe side. It's a small amount of money to spend and I like to know that if something does happen an official will be able to translate my home drivers license.
