I've heard there are amazing ice caves near Salzburg, but I can't find any info about them- only the salt mines. Thank you
Kathie
I think I just answered my own question. I googled "ice caves near Salzburg" and found out they are in Hallstat. One clip was from Rick Steves' book! But I still don't know if they are really worth the trip. Has anyone been there?
Thanks.
Kathie
Kathie, are you talking about the ice caves in/near Werfen? www.eisriesenwelt.at Short trip from Salzburg... and worth it !
Kathie, the ice caves near Hallstatt are pretty small compaired to Eisriesenwelt.
Thank you. I'll check it out.

Check out the Untersberg as well.
We've been to the ones in Hallstatt. It was a neat experience. You have to take a gondola up the mountain and from the station it's still a good 15 minute hike up to the caves. You have to take a guided tour of the caves. And you aren't supposed to take any pictures, although we took our tour with a large Chinese group, and they were taking pictures like crazy the whole time.
