I am planning a honeymoon in October. We are going to fly to barcelona and plan on spending the majority of our time there. But I know my wife-to-be wants to spend some time on the beach where the water is still warm? Will Barcelona beaches suffice? I was looking into Ibiza and it seems I am catching the island at the right time of year for us (just past summer, quieter, etc./we aren't into the party scene so much) but will the water and or beaches be better there?
Steve, if you guys are not into the party scene, Ibiza may not be the best for you. Although a nice town, the place was for those who are young, single, and look to party very hard more than anything else. One place that I found enchanting and romantic is Palma de Mallorca. This is an island that keeps calling me back. The people are great, the food is excellent, and the sights lead to a time for many great moments with you wife. In fact, if there is one place I would buy a place in Europe it would be there. Enjoy yourself!
By mid-October, you may find the water at Barcelona a little chilly for swimming....altho, if you've been in Lake Michigan, you'll probably be OK for a quick dip! Don't expect blisteringly hot temperatures in Barcelona then...low to mid 70's, but still nice and warm in the sun. Be aware, too, that October is the rainiest month in Barcelona....not "rainy" as we may know it, but you may be in for a day or 2 of showers during your stay.
I agree, Ibiza is really known as a party place unless you go in winter. Mallorca or Menorca would be nice alternatives. I've been to Mallorca in October and the weather was perfect, the water temperature very nice. We did go swimming in the ocean every single day.
Do any of you or does anyone have any hotel recommendations for honeymooners in barcelona or mallorca. Somewhere nice but not breaking the bank. That is a ceiling of 250-300/night?
