Has anyone stayed at this hotel? Its at a price that almost seems too good to be true, and is substantially below other Ibis properties in Paris except the ones near Montmartre (which I've heard can be a rough neighborhood at nite). The hotel website is at http://www.ibishotel.com/gb/hotel-1399-ibis-paris-bastille-opera-11eme/index.shtml and it lists a shower and bathroom in the room. They say its only 1km from Notre Dame, so it sounds like a nice enough location. Is this in a bad neigborhood, or is the hotel itself rundown? I'm hoping someone out there has first-hand experience with this hotel. thanks in advance! The
Ibis is in the middle of the Accor conglomeration. You never said the price, or time of year. Montmartre is fine. All of it. There's nothing bad about the location except that it's a good distance from most tourist sites. They lied about the distance, I'm betting it's closer to three kilometers to Notre Dame. Never stayed there, but have walked the street a few times over the years.
Hey John I have never been but I think this site is helpful. (Just in case you have never seen or heard of it.) http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187147-d197446-Reviews-Ibis_Bastille_Opera-Paris_Ile_de_France.html Good luck and enjoy your trip!
I have stayed at Ibis hotels in Europe but not the one you mention. They are a gd mid range very clean hotel w/ most amenties and usually gd dining options. If the location and price work for you -book it. I wouldn't worry about Montmartre area either. It might be a little noisy at night but otherwise OK.
The 16th Arr is closer to Arc de Triomphe also.
The Arc is, in fact, on the 16th Arr boundry. Montmartre is in the 18th Arr, however.
Ed, wasn't sure if I was allowed to post prices on the forum, but here it is: travel in mid-Sept and the price on the website is $108. Many of their other websites are around $160-$180. So the low price made me a little suspicious...
Go for it then. My recollection is that the buidling is fairly new or at least redone. It's better-looking than the two of the three listed at Montmartre (which aren't actually on the butte, but down the hill on the Clichy-Pigalle strip - - the area that everybody says is rough, but you see tourist parents with kids in tow walking around way the hell after dark). I hadn't been along that way for years, but walked it with a buddy a few months ago and found nothing really offensive - - look at the second and subsequent stories above the stores, it's just regular folks' apartments like everywhere else in the city. Don't try to buy a place around there - - I was reading something the other day that said real estate is going through the roof in the area since that's where all the young professionals are buying. There's a third one listed as 'Montmartre' but that's on the back side of the hill around Clignancourt. I like the area since it's free of tourists except on flea market days - - it's too far out for most people.
OK, I'm confused! Is it the Ibis at Bastille or Montmartre? If the former, I stayed there once and it and the area is fine, quite trendy nowadays in fact. It is close to the Opera Bastille and the Promenade Plantée. Take Bus No. 69 from Bastille to get Père Lachaise Cemetery. It is also just a short walk from the hotel to the Marais and all it has to offer.
Ed, your intuition about distances is pretty accurate! (re: your 1st reply). Google maps says the walking distance is 2.5km which is a bit more than the 1km they advertise, but not too bad in the end. And I guess I'll see a lot of interesting architecture along the way...
Norma, the one by the St Martin Canal. Chemin Vert or somewhere along there.
