I just want to be certain. I have read that you can not take any ham product back to the states with you and I have also read that if you purchase a commercially vacuum sealed container you can.(you know, heat sealed, heavy plastic) Which is correct? Thanks
Jonathan
Jonathan, I'd suggest that you contact U.S. Customs and Border Protection for a definitive answer. The information on their website states: "Parma, Iberian or Serrano hams - Call (301)734- 7633 or (301) 734-3277. Only certain plants are certified exporters, and the hams must be accompanied by certificates and seals." You can view the website at https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/944/~/bringing-meat,-poultry-or-pork%2Fswine-products-into-the-u.s. (browse other sections of the website as well). Given that some producers are "approved" that's good information to have BEFORE you buy the product in Spain. Be sure to buy from an "approved" producer, and if necessary get paperwork. Good luck!
Jonathan, If you do bring one back, a bunch of us Hoosiers are driving down to help you eat it! Right Karen, Grier.
